Abolish Slavery Virginia: Defending Education and Justice

Updated: Aug 28

The Fight Against Injustice

At Abolish Slavery Virginia, we understand that the struggle to end all forms of slavery—including forced prison labor and mass incarceration—is closely linked to the pursuit of educational justice, free thought, and community empowerment. This is why I am speaking out today, not just as the founder of this organization, but also as a proud student at George Mason University.

A Coordinated Attack

Today, we issue a public statement in response to the Trump administration’s coordinated investigations targeting George Mason and other institutions like Columbia, Harvard, and UVA. These actions are not isolated incidents. They are part of a calculated strategy to reassert racial hierarchy through intimidation, manufactured outrage, and authoritarian overreach.

Let’s be clear: this is a direct attack on our efforts to build inclusive and equitable academic communities. It represents an invasion of our schools and a hijacking of our institutions, aimed at silencing movements for racial justice and liberation. More importantly, it is an attempt to undermine any leadership that refuses to submit to authoritarian power.

Standing Strong Together

We cannot and will not let them win. This moment demands organizing, resistance, and solidarity. We stand in unity with my peers, with faculty and staff under siege, and with every individual and institution working to repair the generational harm caused by slavery, segregation, and mass incarceration. We’re in this fight together—from the classroom to the Capitol, from the prison yard to the polling place.

The Importance of Community Power

Community power is essential in this fight. It allows us to challenge oppressive systems and advocate for change. By coming together, we can amplify our voices and demand justice. We must support one another and create spaces where everyone feels safe to express their thoughts and ideas.

Education as a Tool for Liberation

Education is a powerful tool for liberation. It enables individuals to think critically and challenge the status quo. When we fight for educational justice, we are also fighting for the right to learn, grow, and thrive without fear of oppression. We must ensure that all voices are heard and valued in our educational institutions.

Taking Action

Now is the time for action. We must mobilize our communities and engage in meaningful dialogue about the issues we face. Whether it’s through protests, discussions, or educational initiatives, every effort counts. Together, we can create a movement that demands accountability and justice.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the fight against slavery and oppression is ongoing. We must remain vigilant and committed to our cause. By standing together and advocating for educational justice, we can create a brighter future for all.
